Q: I have about a $5000 budget, maximum, for a diamond for an already purchased engagement ring. My fiancee has her heart set on a 1.5(can be 1.48ish or better) carat diamond. We’d like at least good cut, J color, and SI2 or better clarity. I thought I knew what I was doing until I started noticing things like Clarity Enhancement(we don’t want) and then when I researched that I came upon your articles about GIA vs. the other certifiers. Can you please help???
…….
I forgot to mention that I needed a Princess with best color, clarity, and as close to 1.5 carat as possible, all for around $5k!!! The more and more I search, the task seems to be nearly impossible!!! Read More→

Q&A: Princess Cut Diamond for $12K Budget

Posted by: | Comments (5)

Q: I am looking to purchase a loose princess cut diamond for my partners engagement ring.

I’m looking for an ideal cut, above 1.5 carats, between a d-f and VS2 and above.

My budget is probably around the $12K mark.

Your website has been great for narrowing down what is quality and what isn’t but I’m looking for that gentle nudge and explanation of what is best.

I’m also not sure how important or preffered is the girdle thickness.

I have looked on the James Allen website and have narrowed it to a possible 4 diamonds. You may find something more suitable, but the numbers of the ones I am looking at are:

1320343
1335403
1370479
1371210

Any help is greatly appreciated. Read More→

Q: I was literally just about to head to the jewelers down the street today but decided to do some last-minute research. After finding your site and reading what you have to say, you totally changed my mind!

My budget is $10k including a platinum band, so I think that means about $9k for the rock. Only requirements are round cut, no visible flaws, and (maybe weirdly) I’d like to not go over 1.5 carats.

It would be so greatly appreciated if you could suggest one or two options for me! Read More→

Q: I have found your site both interesting and educational.

My details:
best diamond for fixed budget
emerald shape
D-H
IF-VS2
$2500-$4000 in the comfort range up to upper 5K range if it was very nice diamond and made sense

I am absolutely open to any thoughts and ideas you may have as my diamond and jewelry knowledge is certainly limitied.

I am looking at a side stone setting and a 3 stone and will give a sample setting link from jamesallen. I am trying to weigh the importance of colr, clarity and cut in the emerad shape. I will list a few diamonds that caught my uneducated eye and would welcome your honest thoughts on any of them as well as any alternatives you may have. Thanks in advance.

Q: Let me start by saying the website is phenomenal. The whole diamond buying experience can be so overwhelming and the information you provide helps reduce much of the anxiety. I’m looking to propose soon to my live in girl friend of 10 years and have decided on pricess cut stones in this setting:
http://www.jamesallen.com/design-your-three-stone-ring/three-stone-princess-cut-engagement-rings.html.
I wanted to have larger and different colored side stones than the ones James Allen provides in this setting. After speaking with a customer service representative they said I could pick all 3 stones myself or have them pick the 2 side stones and then I could choose the middle stone. This would lower the cost of the setting initially and would leave me with a budget for all 3 stones of $6500-$7000. I wanted the side stones to be 1/2 carat and then get as large as middle stone as possible and still stay within my budget(best value/best stone). After reading your information on princess cut stones I would be looking for eye-clean VS2, I-H colored. Do you think I should allow James Allen to pick my side stones or should I do it myself? Also, with side stones is there a specific size the middle stone should be? Any advice with regards to the individual stones would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and I look forward to you response. Read More→
