Best Diamond for $3000: 1.10 Carat J Color SI2 Clarity Eye-Clean Round Brilliant
Posted by: | CommentsFollowing yesterday’s $3500 diamond budget, we nudge down today to a $3000 Budget for a Diamond. $3000 is really a critical “price point” in the diamond world. Most retail outlets will have you believe that if you only want to spend $3000, you will not be able to land a diamond over 1 carat. This just simply isn’t true, as is most of what they tell you in the places where they’re trying to sell you a diamond. As I discussed in my Diamond Clarity article, you only need to buy a diamond that is clean to the naked eye, and not a Diamond VS2 Clarity or higher stone.. And as I discussed in my Diamond Color article, a J color round diamond will look perfectly white when it’s by itself and not sitting directly next to a significantly higher colored diamond. Keeping this advice in mind, you can still score a great 1 carat diamond for a $3000 budget. In fact, today’s diamond is even a 1.10 carat diamond, well over just 1.00 carat. It’s diameter is about 6.60 mm vs the normal 6.40 mm for a straight 1.00 carat diamond!
Here’s the stats (or Click Here for a Copy of the GIA Certificate):
Carats: 1.10
Diamond Clarity: SI2
Measurements: 6.66*6.60*4.09
Diamond Cut: Very Good
Diamond Polish: Excellent
Diamond Symmetry: Very Good
Depth: 61.7%
Table: 56%
Diamond Price: $3230
As with every Daily Diamond recommendation, today’s diamond is 100% clean to the naked eye. Normally, I would post a closer-to-life-size picture to show that the inclusions are too small to see, but today it’s not even necessary – you can hardly see the inclusions at 20x magnification!

A Monster for $14,000: 2.80 ct I Color I1 Clarity GIA Eye-Clean Round Brilliant
Posted by: | CommentsUnfortunately, there was nothing available for a $13,000 budget that truly outperformed our Daily Diamond pick for a $12,000 diamond budget. So moving right along to a $14,000 budget, we bring you a real killer find. There were plenty of SI2s in this price range, but they were all stuck at the 2.20 carat range. Nothing really stood out as significantly better or larger than our previous pick, the 2.09 carat J SI2 for $11,070. Nothing, that is, except for today’s diamond recommendation. Today’s diamond weighs 2.80 carats making this almost certainly a cutter’s mistake. (See my article explaining diamond prices). Furthermore, because this diamond has a depth percentage that is in the lower end of the desirable range, it has an unusually large diameter. While only weighing 2.80 carats, it has a diameter larger than most full 3 carat diamonds on the market! And it still has tons of fire and life!
Here’s the stats (or Click Here for a Copy of the GIA Certificate):
Carats: 2.80
Measurements: 9.21*9.24*5.44
Diamond Cut: Very Good
Diamond Polish: Excellent
Diamond Symmetry: Excellent
Depth: 59.0%

Price: $14,050
As always, all of my daily diamond picks are completely clean to the naked eye. Today’s diamond, despite what you see in the photograph above, is no different. Take a look at the smaller picture beneath the larger one. This size is still significantly larger than the actual diamond, yet it looks clean to the naked eye.

Best Diamond for $10,000: 2.02 carats J Color SI2 Clarity Eye Clean Round Brilliant
Posted by: | CommentsContinuing on in our Budget X series, today’s diamond is my top pic for a $10,000 budget.
Here’s the stats (or Click Here for a Copy of the GIA Certificate):
Diamond Clarity SI2
Measurements: 8.12*8.19*4.91
Diamond Polish: Very Good
Diamond Symmetry: Very Good
Diamond Cut: Very Good
Depth: 60.2%
Table: 60%
Carats: 2.02
Diamond Price: $10,410
As always, all of my diamond picks are eye clean, meaning that without any magnification you will not be able to see any inclusions. The diamond will appear completely clean.
Best Diamond for $6000: 1.54 Carat I Color I1 Clarity Eye Clean Round Brilliant
Posted by: | CommentsFor my next few Daily Diamond Recommendations, I decided to go about looking for the perfect diamond the way many consumers do. First, you decide how much you want to spend, and only then do you try to fit a diamond’s parameters to find the best possible diamond for your budget. For my first diamond in this series, I decided to try out a budget of $6000.
What I found was a gem of a diamond. Here’s the Stats (or click here for a copy of the GIA Certificate):
Measurements: 7.36*7.44*4.56
Diamond Cut: Very Good
Diamond Polish: Very Good
Diamond Symmetry: Very Good
Depth: 61.6%
Table: 59%
Carats: 1.54
Diamond Price: $5780
The small lines you see in the picture above will be totally invisible to the naked eye. Keep in mind that this diamond only measures 7.36 millimeters across in diameter. That’s not even a full centimeter!
Also, it happens to be that this diamond received an unlucky grade. You could send this diamond back to the GIA, and probably have a decent chance of receiving an SI2. This inclusion pattern is very borderline.
A 69 point dream: 0.69 ct J Color SI2 Clarity Eye Clean Round Brilliant
Posted by: | CommentsAs discussed in my Truth About Diamond Prices article, diamond prices jump at round weight categories (ie, 0.50, 0.70, 0.90, 1.00, 1.50, etc). So a 0.49 carat diamond will be around 20% less than a 0.50 carat diamond. Likewise with a 0.69 carat diamond compared to a 0.70 carat diamond.
Today’s diamond is one of those rare 0.69 carat beauties. All of the size of a 0.70 carat diamond, but a lot less money!
Here’s the stats (or click here for a copy of the GIA Certificate):
SI2 Diamond Clarity
Measurements: 5.64*5.68*3.59
Diamond Cut: Very Good
Diamond Polish: Good
Diamond Symmetry: Very Good
Depth: 63.4%
Table: 55%
Price: $1,140
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a copy of the diamond’s picture at press time, but you can click on the link below to be brought to the diamond on JamesAllen.com and see it there. It’s completely eye-clean.
Normally, I wouldn’t recommend a diamond with a depth higher than 62.5%, but since this is such a steal at 69 points, and since the diamond still maintains a “Very Good” Diamond Cut grade from the GIA, I’m enthusiastically recommending this diamond. The diameter is still about 5.65mm which is still really good for a 3/4 carat diamond.
Eye Clean H I1 = Great Savings

I1 Clarity
Depth: 62.6%
Table: 57%
Price: $3,210
What makes this stone so great is that even though it is an I1 clarity, the entire center of the diamond is almost completely clean. The inclusion is concentrated on the side of the diamond where it can be easily covered by the prong of your ring. Click on the thumbnail of the actual picture of the diamond above to enlarge it and see for yourself.

This diamond would look great with a white setting (either white gold or platinum). This setting from James Allen is a great fit for the diamond, and you can request that they cover the inclusion with one of the prongs. The setting show is 18K White Gold, but you can choose the same setting in Platinum or Yellow Gold as well. It contains 16 2 point diamonds for a total weight of 0.32cts. This setting will just explode with fire and life and be a great way to show off your beautiful diamond that you just bought for such a great price!
