Q: This is probably a silly question, but do I need to buy the diamond and the ring from the same place? I mean, if I buy a diamond from your site and want it mounted on a ring from Tiffany’s will they do that? Or will some stores do it, but others won’t?

Q: I have been monitoring your site for a while now and have found it very informative. I do not know the first thing when it comes to diamonds except what I have read on your site. I am looking for a center stone, princess cut diamond for around $8000. I would like it to be from a 1.25ct to a 1.50ct for that price. I have a band already picked out. below is the attached link http://www.hydeparkjewelers.com/bridal-engagement-rings/engagement-ring-collection/tacori-rings.aspx I know it is not a great picture but it is the best one I can find online. The jeweler that is selling this states that the diamonds in the channel are of G color and VS1 clarity. I have been looking into a center stone from jamesallen.com because they seem to have more resonable prices than the place I am going to buy the setting from. If at all possible I would like the diamond to be of G color and VS1 clarity. but, I am not sure if I should get the same color and clarity for the center stone. Let me know what you think. Thanks!!!

Q: Hello! Love the site!! I’ve learned so much and thank you for so much great information. I’m not sure whether you answer questions without a service charge but i’ll ty anyway! I’m located in Canada and i’m really liking what I see on the James Allen website. I’ve read so many great reviews plus they have what i’m looking for (i’ll get to that later!). However, when I use the currency conversion calculator I notice I would be paying around $1000 in duty plus shipping. My local jewelery shop says they can create that diamond for me and all they need is a picture. I thought I was wary about ordering online but i’m even more skeptical about having a shop create a diamond just by looking at a picture. Would I really expect to get the exact same quality product? And would they most likely charge me a premium price because they had to create it specifically for me. I don’t want to end up paying more locally when I was trying to avoid duty charges. There is a James Allen in Boston which is in feasible driving distance, i’m not sure whether the duty charge would be any less by bringing it back across the border versus sending it in the air. If you could answer this i’d love to go ahead and show you what it is i’m interested in purchasing. I’d love your help and advice! Thank you so so much!!

Q: Hi Ira, I’ve been looking at your site for many months now so first of all I’d like to thank you for explaining what to look for in a diamond in such a clear yet thorough way. I appreciate that you must be a very busy man but 2 minutes of your time would be greatly appreciated. I’m looking to buy an engagement ring for about $3000 ($1000 for the platinum setting and ~$2000 for the princess cut diamond). I spotted this (and it turns out so did you). I’ve asked JA whether it is eye clean or not and I’m waiting for their reply.http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1277345.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 I also spotted this which looks like a good I1. But the bottom left corner concerns me – is that an inclusion there that might be susceptible to breaking off? Otherwise I think it appears to be an excellent find for the price. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-I1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1240349.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 Your views would be really appreciated.
