James Allen also has a great selection of engagement rings to choose from to match with this diamond. If you have the money to splurge on a truly exceptional and unique ring design, then I recommend James Allen’s 18k White Gold ME7 by Danhov Designer Engagement Ring. The split shank and high quality pave stones covering the entire ring will truly make this ring stand out.
Unfortunately, the picture of today’s diamond appears quite hazy. It’s clear (since the haziness also covers the parts of the picture surrounding the diamond itself) that the lens was smudged, and it’s not the diamond itself that is cloudy. As I’ve mentioned in other areas on the site, James Allen’s photos are really only good for judging if a stone will be clean to the naked eye or not. They cannot be used to judge color, cut, or fluorescence. The picture is clear enough, though, that I can still see where the inclusions are and how strong they are. And it is clear to me that this stone is eye clean.

James Allen also has a great selection of engagement rings to choose from to match with this diamond. If you want something that’s delicate and simple, yet still offers some of the extra sparkle that side stones offer, then I suggest going with James Allen’s 18k White Gold 0.30ctw Common Prong Diamond Engagement Ring. The very narrow 1.9mm shank will really make the size of this center stone show strongly, and the ideal cut side stones will add a ton of pop and fire behind the center stone.
This diamond is lucky enough to have almost all of the I1 spread around the girdle (edge) of the diamond. You can strategically place the setting’s prongs to cover much of the cloud formations that you see around the edges. Even without the prong-cover, however, this diamond will be clean to the naked eye. When your eye scans a diamond, rarely does it focus on the outer edge.

Best Cushion Cut for $25,000: 2.51 Carat F Color VS2 Clarity GIA Certified
Posted by: | CommentsI love these days when I begin a new series of daily diamond recommendations! Having just completed our series of the best Hearts & Arrows Ideal Cut diamonds for various budgets, today we begin a new series: the best Cushion Cut available for various budgets. We will begin with a $25000 Budget, and slowly make our way down to a $2000 Budget.
I had a tough choice choosing the opening diamond for this series. There was an attractive 3.02 carat G SI2 cushion cut available on James Allen, but I was concerned about the SI2 and whether or not it would be eye-clean. There were a few other nice looking stones in this price range and size as well.
But when I laid my eyes on today’s final pick, I fell in love immediately. Sometimes, you don’t need to say a lot about a diamond and just let it speak for itself. Today is one of those days.
Here’s the Stats (or Click Here for a Copy of the GIA Certificate):
Carats: 2.51
Diamond Clarity: VS2
Measurements: 7.72*7.50*5.26
Length/Width Ratio: 1.03
Depth: 70.1%
Table: 64%
Diamond Polish: Excellent
Diamond Symmetry: Very Good
Diamond Fluorescence: Medium Blue
Diamond Price: $25,980

Now I know, I don’t recommend buying stones with Medium Blue Fluorescence combined with an F color, but this stone just looked too nice to pass on. The odds are still that the fluorescence won’t have any visual effects on the diamond, but just to be sure, you should contact James Allen’s customer support to have their gemologists verify this with a face-to-face inspection.

IGI vs. GIA Fluorescence
Posted by: | CommentsQ: If IGI grades slight flourescence [sic] in a diamond of G color. Is it actually going to be medium or even strong by GIA criteria? How does slight floures affect the price of a diamond.
A: It’s very possible that an IGI “slight” fluorescence diamond would be graded “medium” by the GIA. I would put the odds as follows for how the GIA would grade it: slight 25%, medium 60%, and strong 15%. Slight fluorescence usually has no effect on the price of a diamond.
