Q: I am hoping to propose in the next couple of weeks and I can really use your advice. My girlfriend has very simple tastes and wants a very simple ring. I’m trying to decide between these two settings:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/2mm-18K-Knife-Edge-Yellow-Gold-Ring.html

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/gold-solitaire-engagement-rings.html

As far as the diamond goes, I’m hoping to get the best bang for my buck. She feels that .50 carats is a little too big for her hand, but I don’t want to get a diamond that appears small. Due to the simplicity of the setting, I’m hoping to get a diamond that really pops. My budget is around $2000. Less would be better, but if you can find something special, I can splurge a little more. I’m still a broke college student!

Thank you so much for any advice, input or suggestions! Read More→

Q: Thanks for the great website. There is a lot of useful information here. I guess I’ll get to the point:

I’m looking to purchase an egagement ring within 2 to 4 weeks. My budget is $3,000 to $4,000 total, and I’m thinking about this setting in yellow gold (or the six-prong version):

Given what that costs, I have 2500-3400 or so for the stone. I’m totally not confident in choosing a diamond, so I’m coming to you for help. After some searches, I found this stone, but I’d really appreciate some suggestions:

Q: Is this a decent diamond?

Can you make any other recommendations in that price range? I like the radiant because it is a little different than the traditional round.

Q:I am looking for a round, cushion, or oval shape diamond under $2000. As far as clarity is concerned, anything ”eye-clean” is fine. Of course, I would like the biggest diamond, I don’t like the faint yellow tint. I read on your website that a medium fluorescent can help a lower color diamond look better, but I’m still hesitant because I want a diamond that sparkles. I was looking at these but if you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Q: Thanks for your informative website, what a great idea!

I am looking for the ’best’ round brilliant or princess diamond in a 5-6K range, not paticular about clarity or colour (maybe, no less than VS2, I) but I’d like at least 1 carat.

I already have a wedding band so I’d like a raised, yellow gold setting to make sure they go togther.

Could I get your opinion on side gemstones. JA has beautiful rings with a round center diamond and square side rubies. I like this idea because it’s something different from the common solitaire, but I wonder if the side stones detract from the center one. What do you think?

Q: Would you be able to help me source a stone 0.90 -1.00ct, colour H-K, ideal cut.
I’m helping my sister’s fiance find a stone within a reasonable budget. Maybe 2.5-3.5k. The ring will be custom made with two tones of gold, white and yellow.

I was having a browse in jamesallen and these are the stones I came up with.

I’ve only really looked at K colour. Do you think it’ll be fine? Will it show it much?

Q: This is an amazing site and a great resource. I’m very happy to have found it and am glad to see that it’s been worthwhile for you as well.

I’m a graduate student currently planning on getting married in the coming year and need a ring by the middle of June. I know the type I have in mind and have seen a few things on both JA and BN that seem plausible but wanted to run them by you to see if you had any thoughts or suggestions.

I’m looking for a round diamond to go with a pave white gold wedding set and was planning on doing the whole thing for 5-6k. BN has a nice set for ~1350+ while JA has a similar one for ~1700+ so although I was hoping to get the diamond from JA it seems like going through BN might allow me to spend more on the diamond…

I’ve been reading your site and trying to find the right stone, and I’m hoping to get the largest one I can afford. I can’t seem to find the nice I1’s you can and was a little scared of some of the J-colored ones I’ve seen. So far these are in the running:

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?filter_id=0&track=head#diamonds_pid=LD01639646

On JA there were a few I1s I hoped to get your opinion on:

Do you think the inclusions on this one are too large to be covered?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1257642.asp

I’m leaning towards this one… It’s at the top of my price range but it seems like it’s a good deal.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. If you have some stones in mind I’d love to see them.

Thanks!
