Q: I was literally just about to head to the jewelers down the street today but decided to do some last-minute research. After finding your site and reading what you have to say, you totally changed my mind!

My budget is $10k including a platinum band, so I think that means about $9k for the rock. Only requirements are round cut, no visible flaws, and (maybe weirdly) I’d like to not go over 1.5 carats.

It would be so greatly appreciated if you could suggest one or two options for me! Read More→

Q: I see where you have given suggestions about finding a diamond… I am looking to purchase a stone in the following ranges: close to 1 carat as possible, color I-G, cut good-very good, clarity S1 at a minimum. I have looked through the James Allen site but I am overwhelmed. I am a school counselor and don’t have much of a bank to break; 3000 dollar range is what I am looking for. Hopefully you can help. Q: Cut-good or above
color-j-H
Clarity-SI2-VS1
Carat- >1
Princess

I am looking to spend around 4-4.5K on the complete ring so about 3-3.5K on the diamond.

I am looking for a diamond that is good quality and also at least 1 carat. 1.2 would be best but i could be asking for to much.

what do you think about this diamond??

Q&A: Looking for a Diamond Down Under

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Q: Hope you are doing well. I have been reading up on diamonds for a while and stumbled upon your website and have to say that the honest information provided here is refreshing and very appreciated.

I’m living in Melb, Australia and am looking for a good engagement ring yet at the same time giving my woman the best I can offer.

Is your goal cheapest price for given parameters, or best diamond for fixed budget?
- Best Diamond for fixed budget (.5 carat and above).

Shape
- Round Brilliant

Desired Color Range
- E and below (Leaning towards F-I)

Desired Clarity
- VVS2 and below (Leaning towards VS1-VS2)

Budget
- AUD$2,500 (Including setting).

Anything else you might feel is relevant
- She is a quite short and so her hands are not very big, neither are her fingers very long so I’m not sure if a larger diamond (to me honestly anything above .75 is large!) would look good on her.

I have been taking a look at the James Allen and Blue Nile website and have short-listed a few (from James Allen). However, I would still appreciate an expert opinion given the vast range of diamonds available!

Would it be very difficult for them to send it over to Melbourne and would I have to pay extra charges if so?

Sorry if I come across as indecisive and long-winded. Thank you for your time and looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Q: Hello! I would like your assistance on a square cushion cut diamond. I have been examining diamond on JamesAllen and have come up with a few that I really like. I’m unsure what setting I will decide on either pave or a simple solitaire. It will come down to the diamond price. My budget for the ring is less than or around 2500. I’ve found 5 diamond I adore (roughly .75, VS1/2, ideal) but they are in the I/J range. You suggest something better for white gold and am wondering what my options are now. I’m concerned about size since my ring size is 7.75. I want something substantial but nothing overly flashy for my teaching job. For clarity and symmetry I prefer ideal but would accept very good, color is up to your judgement, thanks so much! Also, I read somewhere that for durability and strength the best setting is 14k with a platinum prongs. Do you agree? What would you suggest? I was told by a jeweler that cushions are hard to set and especially may not be the best for prongs that meet in the middle of the ring. Thanks again!

…….

I contacted you earlier about help picking a cushion cut… so far here are my top 6. A few are a bit higher than I prefer but would love any suggestions you may have found. Thanks!
