Q: Would you be able to help me source a stone 0.90 -1.00ct, colour H-K, ideal cut.
I’m helping my sister’s fiance find a stone within a reasonable budget. Maybe 2.5-3.5k. The ring will be custom made with two tones of gold, white and yellow.

I was having a browse in jamesallen and these are the stones I came up with.

I’ve only really looked at K colour. Do you think it’ll be fine? Will it show it much?

Q: I am a huge fan of your site both for useful information and a good laugh or two when the diamond searching has got me down. I am looking to get ready make the plunge here in the next month or so and have been looking for the perfect diamond to pop the question with.

That being said, I am a normal person and am on a tight budget. I’m looking for the best round brilliant cut diamond that I can get for $1500. I have been trying to find something in the G-H color range, eye clean up to VS1 clarity, preferably an ideal cut and a size around .70 ct (up to .75 ct max). I don’t have a problem with fluorescence up to medium and am really just trying to get the most impressive stone I can and stay on my budget.

This is the link to the wedding set that I plan on putting it into.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. You’re site has already opened my eyes to so many realities that I wouldn’t have gotten from anywhere else (especially not the industry that is trying to keep the wool over my eyes!).

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Q:  Hi Mr. Weissman,

You have a wonderful site and I really appreciate your taking the time to assist the diamond consumer.

Could you let me know what you think about this diamond I’m considering purchasing? I’m wondering how visible the inclusion in the center of the stone will be to the naked eye. In the photo it appears to be somewhat hidden by some of the dark shading in the stone.

While I agree that a F color isn’t generally necessary, I’m planning to put it in a pave setting with side stones that’ll be in the F-G range.

Thank you for your time.

Q: I’ve spent the last four months or so trying to decide what would be the perfect diamond for my fiancée to be. I’ve read over everything on your site and have looked at all the diamonds you’ve recommended in my price range (5-6k). I’m still torn as to what kind of diamond would make my girlfriend happiest. I think a diamond with ideal cut and as many carats as I can get would be best. I would prefer not to sacrifice too much in clarity of color, but would be okay with going as low as SI2 clarity and I color.

Two of the diamonds you’ve recommended on your site are:

and

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-I1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1131295.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

I know that these are two very different diamonds that fall into roughly the same price range of 6,000 which is just on the high side of what I’d be comfortable spending. Could you recommend a good compromise to these two diamonds?

Thank you so much for your help!

Q: Thank you for your website. Based on what I’ve learned and from doing some searches I think the following might be a good engagement ring combination, but I thought it might be good to run it by you before I purchase. It’s for a woman named Tamar. I thought you’d appreciate that since I saw that is your wife’s name.

Thanks for your time.

Q: Hi Ira, I’ve been looking at your site for many months now so first of all I’d like to thank you for explaining what to look for in a diamond in such a clear yet thorough way. I appreciate that you must be a very busy man but 2 minutes of your time would be greatly appreciated. I’m looking to buy an engagement ring for about $3000 ($1000 for the platinum setting and ~$2000 for the princess cut diamond). I spotted this (and it turns out so did you). I’ve asked JA whether it is eye clean or not and I’m waiting for their reply.http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1277345.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 I also spotted this which looks like a good I1. But the bottom left corner concerns me – is that an inclusion there that might be susceptible to breaking off? Otherwise I think it appears to be an excellent find for the price. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-I1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1240349.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 Your views would be really appreciated.

Q: I was recently at a jewelry store that carried the hearts on fire diamond. What are your thoughts on this diamond, and for $2,500 could i get a better deal on a diamond that still had the same sparkle? the largest i can afford of the hearts on fire is a half carat or maybe a 5/8. it would be nice to get a 3/4 carat without sacrificing on the quality of the cut. thanks for your time
