Q&A: Question about Diamond Inclusions

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Q: I purchased a diamond from JamesAllen that has twinning wisps and feather inclusions. I just want to be absolutely sure this diamond is sound and these inclusions cannot be seen visually or cause the diamond to crack in the future. I attached a link of the diamond. Your help is much appreciated..

Q: Hi. Great website! I’m looking for round diamond:

- ’Excellent’ Cut

- ’I’ Color or Better

- ’SI1’ Clarity or Better

- Not much more than $7000

- As big as possible

I’m not exactly clear on Fluorescence. If I’m getting an ’I’ Color Diamond, would it be preferable to get one with ’Medium Blue’ Fluorescence over one with ’Faint’ Fluorescence? Similarly, would it be preferable to get one with ’Faint’ Fluorescence over one with No Fluorescence?

Q: I’ve spent the last four months or so trying to decide what would be the perfect diamond for my fiancée to be. I’ve read over everything on your site and have looked at all the diamonds you’ve recommended in my price range (5-6k). I’m still torn as to what kind of diamond would make my girlfriend happiest. I think a diamond with ideal cut and as many carats as I can get would be best. I would prefer not to sacrifice too much in clarity of color, but would be okay with going as low as SI2 clarity and I color.

Two of the diamonds you’ve recommended on your site are:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1193896.asp?a_aid-dmnd1357

and

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-I1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1131295.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

I know that these are two very different diamonds that fall into roughly the same price range of 6,000 which is just on the high side of what I’d be comfortable spending. Could you recommend a good compromise to these two diamonds?

Thank you so much for your help!

Q&A: Seeking Round Eye-Clean 2 Carat Diamond

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Q: I stumbled on your website while doing my research, and have found it to be enormously helpful. I’m confident in my abilities to pick a stone with good dimensions, but even with the ”virtua loop” on James Allen’s site, I’m a bit nerve-wrecked over which stones will be eye clean, and which won’t.

Would you mind taking a look at an image for me and letting me know your opinion on whether this stone is eye clean? Any help you could provide would be enormously appreciated.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds-search/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1189574.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 (I see a lot of inclusions at 10x, most of which look black, but will these be visible to the naked eye? I like the pairing of the I color with Med. Blue flourescence, and the 2.04 karat size is nice also.)

Q&A: Round 1.25 Carat for $6-7K Budget

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Q: I am looking for a round diamond in the $5500 to $7000 range for this setting:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire-rings/ring/item_57-1933_design.asp?module=setting?a_aid=dmnd1357

Based on the recommendations on your site I am looking in the 1.25 carat range with H-I color, excellent cut, and ’eye-clean’ clarity (SI1-VS2). I would also be happy to get faint to medium florescence, but it is not all that important to me. I would really like to know what is the best (biggest) diamond I can get at the top and bottom of my price range.

My main concern is making sure that the diamond is truly eye-clean. Sometimes I can see the flaws in the picture, and other times I cannot. If I can see a flaw, I do not know for sure that it will not be visible without magnification. Here are some that I have found:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1321794.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1294959.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1278161.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1305286.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357

The only other thing I am curious about is whether it is worth it to pay extra for the ’True Hearts’ cut quality. It seems to be significantly more expensive for the same IGA cut grade.

Q: I’m looking for a solitaire diamond ring for my wife. My budget would ideally be under $4000-4500 and I would like the best stone for the money. I’m looking at stones between 0.80 – 0.95 carat that are round or princess cut. My wife likes sparkly stones, so it would need to have an ideal (very good, excellent cut). The lowest I would like to go in color is G-H and clarity can be anywhere from VS1 to SI2, but perfectly the stone should be eye-clean or almost eye-clean.

What online retailers would you suggest?

I was told Costco sells pretty good diamonds is that true?

I read your article about clarity where you say to go for 60/60? Would that work for a princess cut stone?

What do you think of this ring?

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11589206&whse=BC&Ne=5000000+4000000&eCat=BC|108|28447&N=4010130%205000109&Mo=39&No=21&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

Which stone would be visually bigger provided they have the same proportions round or princess cut?

Thanks in advance and I cannot wait to hear from you!

Q&A: Princess Cut, Fluorescence & Sapphires

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Q: I am currently in the planning stage of ring shopping, and you website has been incredibly helpful. After reading through your site, and doing lots of recon, I’ve been looking at diamonds and settings trying to make a plan and a budget. I do have a few questions: After browsing through settings on James Allen, http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-colored-sidestones/Pear-Shape-Blue-Sapphire-Ring.html?a_aid=dmnd1357 really stood out to me. Knowing that fluorescence can give a slight blue-ish glow in sunlight, I wondered if coupling a fluorescent stone with sapphire sidestones would yield a particularly eye catching arrangement. My soon-to-be fiancée prefers princess cut diamonds. You mentioned, while giving advice to another diamond-buyer, that triple excellent stones do not happen by accident, so a triple excellent stone would more likely have a great cut. However, your mention of symmetry and polish on the cut page said to ignore those criteria as they were nearly undetectable with the naked eye. Which piece of advice supercedes?
