Indiana Jones-Inspired Engagement Ring

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Major Eaton: Doctor Jones, we’ve heard a lot about you.
Indiana: Have you?
Major Eaton: Professor of Archeology, expert on the occult, and how does one say it… obtainer of rare antiquities.

Well this unusual engagement ring story just may be a “rare antiquity” before its time. Take a talented and creative guy who wants to propose to his girlfriend but doesn’t have a ring and add a girlfriend who can’t get enough of Indiana Jones, and you might end up with a story like this.

Redditor Homerliwag wanted to pop the big question to his girlfriend Aimee on 11-11-11. Being that he hadn’t yet procured the necessary ring, he bought himself some time with a clever trick that left her excited and eager for the next act. He filled a ring box with a tiny bag of sand and told her that Indiana Jones must have gotten there first. Strong work, Redditor. Read More→

Q: Hello, First – I think your site is great. Very good information and non of the marketing ploys. Keep up the good work. On to the situation. My girlfriend is leaning towards a yellow diamond as the primary stone surrounded by white diamonds, similar to an antique style. She has mentioned that “fancy” diamonds are not necessary but still would like some color – possibly in the X,Y,Z category. So I have two questions / dilemmas. Fist, are there any downsides at doing a two tone setup such as this? I have not seen many two tone engagement rings out there and am partially worried that it may come back to haunt us. I know this is some what a personal opinion but I value your expertise. Second, if going in that direction I have not found many retailers that carry non-fancy colored stones. Do you have any recommendations on where / who to look for these types of stones.

As you might know by now, I love hearing from my readers.  One of the most common comments I get from people shopping for engagement rings is that their overriding concern is that they want to buy something unique.  Usually, this takes the form of asking about less common shapes (I just got an email from a reader wanting to buy a trilliant shape for a solitaire engagement ring!) or asking about the most unique ring designs.

Most people don’t realize that the best way to buy something utterly unique is to buy a fancy color diamond.  I say utterly unique because you’d be hard pressed to ever find two fancy color diamonds anywhere that are identical.  Let alone the fact that you probably won’t ever find another person wearing a fancy color diamond ring.  I think most people don’t realize that fancy color diamonds are a great option simply because they either aren’t aware at all about fancy color diamonds, or because they didn’t realize that you can buy many beautiful fancy color diamonds (especially yellow diamonds) for pretty much the same price as you would a high quality white diamond of the same size.
