Q: Hello, First – I think your site is great. Very good information and non of the marketing ploys. Keep up the good work. On to the situation. My girlfriend is leaning towards a yellow diamond as the primary stone surrounded by white diamonds, similar to an antique style. She has mentioned that “fancy” diamonds are not necessary but still would like some color – possibly in the X,Y,Z category. So I have two questions / dilemmas. Fist, are there any downsides at doing a two tone setup such as this? I have not seen many two tone engagement rings out there and am partially worried that it may come back to haunt us. I know this is some what a personal opinion but I value your expertise. Second, if going in that direction I have not found many retailers that carry non-fancy colored stones. Do you have any recommendations on where / who to look for these types of stones.

I’m excited to kick off our Fancy Color Daily Diamond Recommendation today with a truly beautiful stone. As I mentioned in the introduction above about Fancy Color diamonds, the trick to getting an affordable fancy color diamond is using the rules of fancy color diamond pricing in your favor. Today’s diamond is a great example of this. A one carat Fancy Pink GIA certified diamond would go for about $50,000. But because the stone has an Orange modifying color, the price drops significantly. Of course, the primary color is still pink, so the diamond is quite expensive, but it’s still much more affordable than a straight pink would go for.
Here’s the Stats (or Click Here for a Copy of the GIA Certificate):
Carats: 1.08
Diamond Shape: Cushion Modified Brilliant
Diamond Color: Natural Fancy Orangy Pink
Measurements: 6.74 X 4.77 X 3.75
Diamond Polish: Good
Diamond Symmetry: Good
Diamond Price: $30,250
