The Young Consumer Prefers Walk-In Jewelry Stores to Internet Sites

Nowadays we are so used to hearing that the young generation prefers to buy everything online that we hardly pause for a moment to consider whether this statement is actually true. From buying groceries online to finding special e-deals on retail clothing sites, 20 and 30-somethings seem to have it all figured out.

Well, that seems to be only part of the story. While it’s true that this segment of the population is the most Internet-savvy, it does not necessarily imply that such skills influence shopping behavior. We may surf online to compare prices and get an idea of what inventory is out there, but we may still want to step into a brick-and-mortar store to get a personal encounter with a product.

This is what JCK Magazine recently discovered about the 18-25 year-old shoppers: more than 68% prefer to shop for clothing and shoes in stores rather than online, according to a joint survey by LIM College and the National Retail Federation Student Association. Read More→

Best Cushion Cut for $6,000: 1.28 Carats, H Color, VS2 Clarity, GIA Certified Diamond.

Here is a nice 1 1/4 carat cushion cut. This is an antique-cut (sometimes referred to as chunky) look. It is a very well proportioned diamond and is a great deal for someone looking for a squarish cushion cut.

Q&A: Best Cushion or Radiant Diamond for $8K Budget

Q: Thank you very much for your education on the diamond industry. I had done a good bit of research before a friend recommended your site, and i was well prepared for the second-tier learning you offer. I also appreciate the James Allen recommendation, that site is great.

I am looking at a fixed budget purchase for the highest quality diamond i can get. that budget is 8000 and down…with 8000 being the most i really want to pay but doesnt mean a nice well balanced 6k diamond is out of the question at all.

I am looking for exclusively Cushion or Radiant diamonds, my real preference being the square cushions and am thinking i can possibly get something around 1.1-1.2 carats, G color (though you recommend slightly higher for these cuts), VS2/SI1…it is going to be set on a white gold ring with two .15 carat pears on the side, and the band tapers into the point on the pears which face away from the center stone.

I look forward to your insight, thank you! I realize the cut makes it more difficult but that is her desire.

Q: Your site has been extremely helpful and educational. My boyfriend and I have been shopping for engagement rings for about a month. We have decided to purchase from James Allen. We have a budget of $3,000 for the diamond. I like a more square cut diamond and have been looking at cushion cut diamonds. I like the antique look of a cushion cut. I am hoping to get a 1 carat diamond, eye clean. We are trying to get the best diamond for our money. The diamond will be set in white gold. Below are some of the diamonds we are looking at.

Q: I purchased a diamond from JamesAllen that has twinning wisps and feather inclusions. I just want to be absolutely sure this diamond is sound and these inclusions cannot be seen visually or cause the diamond to crack in the future. I attached a link of the diamond. Q&A: Looking for a Squarish Cushion Cut at Least One Carat for $5000

Q: So the time has come for me to find the right stone for an engagement ring. Your website has been a great help. Truly clearing up some of my misconceptions and keeping me away from salesmen. Thank you!

I have found one stone I am interested in and am curious if you might be able to suggest a better stone.

I am looking for an ideal cushion cut 1 caret or greater stone that is spotless to the eye. Budget $4000-$5500.

Color F or greater with no florescence.
Very good polish and symmetry.

I had previously read that with the cushion cut I would want to stay with a greater color and quality due to the large faucets. I prefer a ratio below 1.13.
