Q&A: Buying Locally in Los Angeles vs. Buying Online
Posted by: | CommentsQ: Hello Ira, First, thank you for your site. It’s proven quite helpful already.
My question concerns potential vendors. I live in Los Angeles where we have a wholesale jewelry district downtown. An acquaintance, who actually picked out her own engagement ring, swears that I would be a fool to not use one of these local vendors. Is she right? (And if so, would you happen to have anyone here that you recommend?)
I love to buy online but I’m still not entirely convinced that buying a diamond online is the wisest option. Especially with the local options reportedly being so great. Ultimately, of course, I just want the best deal. Perhaps better deals will, in fact, be found online? I intend to go in soon to see for myself and have some basis for comparison, but I’d love to know what to expect. Any insight here would be very welcome. And I thank you in advance.
Best – D
PS – I anticipate going for a round cut, 1.25 or so Carat, and trying to get the cleanest, clearest one I can for *hopefully* under $8k. But that’s just an initial direction. I definitely do not intend to spend more than ten grand, and would be thrilled to find something great that’s closer to five! Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Q: Hello, First – I think your site is great. Very good information and non of the marketing ploys. Keep up the good work. On to the situation. My girlfriend is leaning towards a yellow diamond as the primary stone surrounded by white diamonds, similar to an antique style. She has mentioned that “fancy” diamonds are not necessary but still would like some color – possibly in the X,Y,Z category. So I have two questions / dilemmas. Fist, are there any downsides at doing a two tone setup such as this? I have not seen many two tone engagement rings out there and am partially worried that it may come back to haunt us. I know this is some what a personal opinion but I value your expertise. Second, if going in that direction I have not found many retailers that carry non-fancy colored stones. Do you have any recommendations on where / who to look for these types of stones.

Q&A: Best Eye Clean Round Brilliant Between $5000 and $6000
Posted by: | CommentsQ: Hi, I’m looking for the best diamond I can get for my budget. I’m hoping I can spend $5,000 or less on an engagement ring but I am also willing to step it up to $6,000 if it is an absolute killer deal. What I’m looking for: Shape – Round diamond Ring – Platinum/White Gold Weight – 1 to 1.5 carat Color – H or higher but after reading your color article, I guess I can go lower considering the ring color and shape of diamond. Clarity – No preference as long as the flaws cannot be seen through the naked eye. Like I mention above, I would like to spend $5,000 or less but am willing to step it up to $6,000 if its a killer deal. Let me know if there is any additional information you would like to help me out in choosing a diamond.
