It’s $4190.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1356786.asp

But THEN today I found this one for $3500 and it looks better to me?! The inclusion seems to blend in with the arrow – do you think it’d be visible?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1306905.asp

I’m looking for brilliant eye clean with value. I would MUCH rather but a S1 or S2 that is eye clean than a more expensive VS1 or VS2.

You suggested some .9s to me before but I waited too long and they’ve been snatched up. Would you mind throwing another one or two into the hat for me to consider?

I plan on purchasing this week, and of course will attribute the sale to you.

Thank you

A: It would be my pleasure! Here’s what I like:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1344749.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1353862.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1334233.asp

All look great. I think the H SI2 you linked to wouldn’t be eye clean.

Q: Thank you Ira! Out of those three, I think I like the 2nd one better but really have no basis for that. Do you have an opinion on your favorite of the three you linked below?

Can I run this one by you? Do you think that blue ‘arrow’ is going to stick out like a sore thumb in person?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1352980.asp

A: That stone you linked to is also very nice. The blue spot in the arrow is just a reflection of light. YOu would never see that in person. You basically just caught the sparkle in mid sparkle.

I think I actually prefer this one:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1344749.asp

because it seems like all the inclusions are around the edges.

Q: Okay, I’ve got a question about that one you like. It comes up when we search for “Ideal” cuts but if you open the GIA certificate for it, it is rated only as a ‘VG’ cut instead of ‘Excellent’.

Don’t I want to hold out for a ‘Excellent’?

It is $800 more than this one (that I showed you below), which has an Excellent rating.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1352980.asp

This is such a confusing process that I’m tempted to buy three diamonds from JA so I can see them in person, and then return 2 of them. I wonder if they’d be open to that.

A: I stand corrected. I apologize for that slip up. The stone I suggested looked from the picture like an EX cut – it must be very borderline. The stone you linked to just now is probably a better choice. It, too, looks to be eye clean.

Q: Thank you Ira! I am going to buy this one -and- another one for $800-1000 more to see if I can tell a difference in person. If not, it will be an easy decision and either way I will send one back. I will let you know what happens in the end!

I have been reading the heck out of your site these past couple of weeks so I hope that JA has the cookie it needs to attribute the sale to you!

Thank you very much for your help,

A: Sounds like a plan! Just don’t mistakenly swap the stones with each other!

Q: Thanks again for your help! I’m excited to see the difference between a $3000 .9 and a $4000 .9 to evaluate S1 versus S1 is worth the 25% premium.

All the best!

Q&A: Ready for Round Diamond, 0.9 Carats

Q&A

0.90 ct

Buying Help

engagement ring

Excellent Cut

eye-clean

H Color

I Color

Ideal Cut

James Allen

Round Brilliant

SI1 Clarity

Q: First off I’d like to say I am a huge fan of the site. I’ve spent a lot of time reading the information you have posted. It was nice to find a single source of information with specific recommendations.

I’d like the nicest stone I can get for the following parameters:
H/I color
Eye clean clarity
Excellent cut

As for size, I’d like to be around a typical 0.90 carat stone size. I have a couple of stones I have been thinking about on jamesallen that I would like to run by you.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1355089.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1350249.asp

The first is what I have typically been browsing at. The second I just stumbled upon today. It appears to have similar face up dimensions but a lower weight and thus price. Is this a good value given my search parameters? Both looked fairly clean.

If it helps, I plan on getting the stone mounted on a 4 prong platinum tiffany style setting.

Any help would be appreciated.

A: Thanks for writing and thanks for the very kind words about the site!

That second stone is an amazing find. Grab it before someone else does!

Q: Just ordered it. Thanks so much for the help Ira. I’ll definitely be recommending the site to anyone that asks.

A: Great! Please stay in touch and let me know what you think!

Q: I decided to get the diamond mounted locally. The local jeweler I’m going to take it to just didn’t have much in the way of inventory compared to what I could find online so that’s why I turned to the internet for the stone. Most of his graded stock was EGL graded stuff and after reading up about them, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy anything other that a GIA/AGS stone. He seems like a very good guy and has a great reputation in the community so I’m feeling pretty good about taking the diamond to him for a setting.

I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Thanks again

A: Excellent! I look forward to hearing from you!

Q: The stone was amazing! She was very impressed and has gotten a lot of compliments on the ring.

Thanks again for your help!

A: That’s amazing! Thanks so much for writing and letting me know!

Thanks again! And may you and your fiance live a long life together filled with health, happiness, and love!

Q&A: Need Advice on Best Round Diamond, at Least 0.8 Carats

Q&A

$3000 Budget

$3500 Budget

0.80 ct

0.90 ct

1 carat

Blue Nile

Buying Help

E Color

engagement ring

eye-clean

I Color

Ideal Cut

J Color

James Allen

Round Brilliant

SI1 Clarity

SI2 Clarity

VS1 Clarity

VVS2 Clarity

Q: I’m in the process of purchasing an engagment ring but I wouldlike some assistance. Looking for a diamond with decent color but I would like inclusions to be very minimal to the naked eye.

A: Here’s two great options:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1352997.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1352993.asp

Let me know what you think!

Q: Thank you for your input. I originally wanted to pay cash but I i have decided to put some the cost on credit so that will up my total to spend up to $3500 on the diamond. I was originally looking at the Jewelry Exchange but looking at there website they seem to have higher prices for the same quality of diamond from say james Allen or Blue Nile. All the other stuff is staying the same. It has to be at least .80 ct. weight and it is going on a white gold cathedral mount four prong ring. definatly would like to get the best diamond for the money.

A: Here’s a couple more options with the new budget:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1304068.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1331948.asp

Q: I like the .91 ct. but do you think I should go smaller with better color say F or G in color. Not sure how J colored diamond would look compared to a F or G. Is there noticeable yellow in a J colored diamond. Definitely want a diamond with a lot of fire. Not sure exactly what I need to look for to get that. I would assume cut and color would achieve that But I have seen some E vs1 that look cloudy. In the ones you sent I can see yellow tint in the center a little. Is that just due to the photo? Basically what is the highest color I can purchase and achieve a fiery diamond.

A: A J color round ideal cut diamond set in a solitaire setting will definitely look white to your eye. The yellow you see in the pics is an artifact of the photography.

These stones will be exceptionally fiery and brilliant – and large!

Q: Thanks for the info.
Greatly appreciated.

A: My pleasure! Let me know what you decide to go with!

Q: I think this is what I’m going to go with! What do you think about? Is it a good choice?
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1313821.asp

A: It’s beautiful. She likes a modern-looking ring and is particularly enamored with a platinum half-bezel solitaire setting (I don’t have the link to the site; will get it to you later).

I’ve heard stories of guys who have had diamonds they bought here appraised for significantly more than they paid for them. However, I only have a few more days here and don’t want to pull the trigger too fast just to have a diamond – I just want a beautiful stone that I’ll be glad I bought and that she will love.

I’d like to keep my budget around $6-8k for the stone and ring; more if I have to. My girlfriend hasn’t set any requirements for size or anything, which is nice, but I’m starting my search around 0.90ct and going up to 1.5ct or so. Based on the setting, a round brilliant makes the most sense to me, though a princess cut would be fine (though I’m nervous about there not being an organization that will classify princess cuts).

I’m torn right now because I did find an absolutely beautiful stone last night – a 0.9ct round brilliant, SI1 D GIA certified stone that was absolutely radiant compared to the other stones I saw. The dealer quoted me $3,600 or so for the stone alone, and I feel like I’m paying a lot for the perfect color (which will be relatively unnoticeable once the stone is set) that I could get back in a little more size for the same money.

Any guidance you could provide would be wonderful – thanks in advance.

A: Thanks for writing! I hope I’m able to help. If that dealer was showing you a 0.90ct round diamond for $3600, then that’s an unbeatable deal. It’s so good, in fact, that it makes me wonder if you’re being cheated. If it’s GIA certified with a dossier (small cert), then the girdle of the diamond should be inscribed with the cert number. You should check that to make sure it’s the same diamond on the cert.

Also make sure the cut is at least VG and it doesn’t have strong blue fluorescence.

Let me know what you discover!

Q: I’ll check the diamond tonight – is the laser engraving relatively easy to see on the girdle with 10x magnification? I looked at your loose diamond pricing tool last night as well and from everything I could see, it looked like I was getting the diamond about $700-1000 below comparable stones, which is hard to believe.

I had been planning on going back to buy it yesterday evening, but became engrossed in the rest of your articles. Assuming that the diamond is the one on the cert, I’m thinking that I’m paying a lot for the D color, which will end up being far less important, and could even get a larger stone for roughly the same money.

Again, I’m not part of the “bigger is always better” crowd, but my girlfriend is tall (6′) and wears a size 7 ring, so I don’t want to get her a diamond that’s going to look underwhelming on her. Thoughts?

Last – some of the stones I looked at seemed to positively explode with fire, and others seemed completely lackluster. Obviously the latter I’m staying away from, but what’s the difference with the others? Is it simply the cut is that much better?

Thanks again!

…….

So I returned to the store tonight and confirmed that indeed it is the diamond in question – the ID number on the stone matched the paperwork. However, I also determined that while the stone exhibits no fluorescence, it’s rated a fair cut, not VG like you recommended.

I just looked up the pricing for a similar stone on your website and included the additional fluorescence, polish (rated excellent) and symmetry (rated good), and only two stones were left in the category, one at $4,219 and one at $4,470. Obviously I’m not exactly comparing apples to apples since you don’t have a “Fair” cut option, but equally obvious is the fact that I’m not looking at as great a deal as I initially thought.

I’m probably talking well past my experience level, but the diamond in question is exceptionally brilliant, more so than any of the other stones I’ve looked at in the last few days. There are two conclusions I can draw from this. One possibility is that most of the other diamonds are pretty inferior stones as a whole, so this one simply shines in comparison (there are very few stores here that carry GIA certified diamonds – most are IGI and I’ve been less than impressed with most of them). The other option is that the cut was rated a little low due to it being borderline in some way, which I find hard to believe.

I only have a day left in town, so any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I also haven’t bargained with the proprietor much, and that’s pretty common here–what would be a truly fair price for the stone as it is right now? Of course, if you believe I’m barking up the entirely wrong tree, point me to the right one.

A: Now everything makes more sense. If it’s a “Fair” cut, then the price you were shown is really nothing special. THe reason is simply that a 0.90 with a fair cut is most likely a stone that is cut too deep, so even though it weighs 0.90cts, it’s going to look like a 0.70ct stone. You’d do much much better with your money just buying an ideal cut 0.70ct stone which will be the same size (in terms of diameter) and be much more brilliant. You should most definitely pass on this stone.

For example:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1308045.asp

This stone has an “excellent” cut from GIA, and I’m willing to bet that it’s got larger dimensions than the 0.90ct stone you’ve been shown.

Q: Glad I decided to pass before I got your email! You were pretty adamant on the cut quality being there in your email and articles, so I decided to take your word. I don’t have the dimensions of the stone I was looking at in front of me, but I think you’re right – the “excellent” stone from JA has larger dimensions…

Thanks for steering me the right way; I’ll be sure to touch base with you again when I get back to the States and have a chance to look at some more GIA diamonds in person. I’m continuing to read your articles and get smarter about this process for later on.

Thanks again!

A: My pleasure! Stay safe. And if you stop by israel on your way home, you’ve got a cold beer waiting for you!

Q: I’m back – have finally had a chance to look at what my girlfriend likes and have an idea of where to start at least. The ring she’s interested in is linked below:

http://www.turgeonraine.com/detail.asp?pid=1032

I hadn’t been looking at anything except round diamonds before so I’m trying to get a handle on this area. I’m also finding out the proportions of the CZ that’s in the linked picture; will advise when I have that info. She seemed to be picking things with approximately a 1.5 ratio. Right now I’m thinking 0.95-1.49 carats, VS2-SI2 clarity, F-H color. My budget is still $6-8k for the diamond. Any ideas you could give me would be excellent – I appreciate your help.

A: Looks like you got out of Bahrain just in time! What shape is she looking for? In the past we were discussing rounds, but now you said you’re looking for something with a 1.5 ratio.

Q: Ira, thanks for the quick reply! You’re right; I was just talking to my friends about how lucky we were to get out of Manama when we did…

My apologies on not mentioning the actual cut – she’s liking the look of an oval now. Any ideas? Thanks again!

A: Here are some I like:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI2-Premium-Cut-Oval-Diamond-1353366.asp – have JA inspect this one. If they say it’s eye clean, then this is a real winner. It’s borderline to me based on its picture.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Oval-Diamond-1342819.asp – not quite as elongated, but still very nice.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS1-Premium-Cut-Oval-Diamond-1337284.asp – another beauty

Have a look at those and let me know what you think!

Q: Thanks for getting back to me so quickly as usual. I’ve got an email in to JA to inspect the first diamond for eye cleanliness; I agree, the quality of the picture isn’t as good and I wonder how much it will really “pop” and scintillate based on that picture.

I had seen the second one but wondered a little about the lower color grade (we’re debating 18k white gold or platinum; my girlfriend is leaning more towards the white gold now) and the inclusions on the right side of the picture. The facet pattern seemed a little odd to me on this one as well, somehow; the clouds of reflections on the sides of the diamond seemed a little off-putting, but what do I know?

We both really like the last one you picked; I think that’s a winner. We’ll talk about it some more and I will definitely let you know how it all turns out. Thanks again for all your expertise and help – you’re truly one of a kind.

A: My pleasure! I look forward to hearing from you!

Best Round Brilliant Cut Diamond For $4,000: 0.90 Carats, J Color, VVS2 Clarity, GIA Certified Excellent Cut

Daily Diamond

$4000 Budget

0.90 ct

Buying Help

engagement ring

Excellent Cut

Excellent Polish

eye-clean

GIA

Ideal Cut

J Color

James Allen

Round Brilliant

Very Good Symmetry

VVS2 Clarity

And the run on VVS2 diamonds oddly continues. This is a great value buy. Given the current diamond market, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find nice 0.90 carat diamonds under $5,000. This diamond is beautifully cut, eye-clean (obviously, given its clarity) and will have great fire and brilliance. I’ve scoured the James Allen site and came across your site. Wow, I would have wasted money. I was down to my top 3 choices after the gemologist review haha.

I want to get the best diamond for my budget.
Has to be a princess cut.
H preferably but if you see an I let me know.
VS1 + for clarity
Budget for loose stone – $2200 – $2700(if I can stay lower than the max, I will be able to get the band she will love)

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I am on a 24 hour period, where they are holding my diamonds until I make a decision.

After reading your post, with James allen, I decided the only real contender based on measurements is item number 1305061.

I am also looking at 1329360 but I feel the black in the center is the clarity thing you mentioned in your article. I’m so confused. Could you help me get the best bang for my budget?

A: Very happy to help. Here’s what I like for you:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1340131.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1306966.asp

Let me know what you think of those! While the ones you suggested are very nice, I think these two I suggested offer you much better value.

Q: Hmm, the 1340131 was one of my top choices, it looked the clearest and based on the magnification, I couldn’t spot anything but the dark center. Wow, so this diamond is better than an H color? The other option is also nice, but I am trying to get the measurements as close to a 1ct as possible haha.

…….

If I upped the amount to say max 2700, would you have any other suggestions? Thinking of changing the setting and trying to get a bigger stone. Thanks.

…….

Never mind Ira, I am going to stick to your 1st choice. I am hesitant being that the color is an I, but based off your reviews, I am going to trust your judgement. You obviously know what you are doing. I will keep you posted. Thanks a bunch.

A: Sounds great! I think I’d be way behind the 8-ball if I didn’t find it, but I still feel overwhelmed with options and I want to pick the best possible diamond for my soon-to-be-fiance! Any help you could offer would be MUCH appreciated as I take this step.

Anyway, I have decided on the setting from James Allen (Platinum Double Claw Prong Pave Set) simple yet elegant:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/ring/item_412-4114.asp

As for the diamond, I was looking at round shape, H-I color, Vs2-Si1 clarity, True Hearts or Ideal cut, and 0.9-1.05 carats. And my budget is $4000 to $5500. My girlfriend has mentioned a few times that the diamond size isn’t as important to her as the SPARKLE! So I figure you are the best person to ask. These are the four that caught my eye…maybe I am on the right track or maybe I am way off?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1316514.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1315248.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1351098.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1315233.asp

The last one I think is my favorite, but I do notice a faint inclusion in the middle, and some odd criss-cross lines on the left side (approx. at 10-o’clock). I am not sure if those lines are a reflection of some sort or an inclusion. I also notice the depth/table are more than 2% from 60, and the girdle is ”thin to slightly thick” despite the H&A designation. Furthermore I don’t know if I just like the H&A best because the TrueHearts marketing is affecting me psychologically! Nonetheless that diamond popped out to me the most on the screen. I am hoping you can tell me if it will look great in person, or if another diamond is a better buy. Thanks SO SO much in advance!!

A: Thanks for writing and thanks for the very kind words about the site!

I think the setting is fantastic. Don’t forget to apply the TADJ10 coupon code. It’ll give you 10% off the setting.

I really like the TH diamond as well (the last one in your list). You shouldn’t worry at all about the table/depth being 2% away from 60. That’s totally fine and in this case even desirable. And there’s most definitely nothing wrong with a thin to slightly thick girdle.

I do think there’s a visual difference with TH. It’s certainly not going to slap you across the face or anything, but if they were together, you would see a slight improvement in brilliance.

Otherwise, I like this stone 2nd best:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1351098.asp - it’s an SI1, but also totally eye clean. Great cut and slightly higher color.

Best of luck! ANd please let me know if you have any more questions. ANd also please stay in touch and let me know what you think when it arrives!

Q: Thank you very much for the incredibly quick response and affirmation, as well as the other diamond recommendation. Sometimes it is just good to have a second opinion which immensely increases my confidence in the purchase. I think I am leaning toward the TrueHearts (last one from my original email), since you said that it will have a noticeable increase in brilliance, even if it is just a slight increase. I just wanted to verify something about those criss-cross lines at 10 o’clock on the diamond. If they are indeed an inclusion (not a reflection of some sort) and if they will be visible to the naked eye or if they can be obscured by the prong. Otherwise you answered all my questions and cured all my qualms.

I am in the process of trying to place that diamond on hold so it doesn’t get scooped up by someone else. I also won’t forget the TADJ10 code. Does that also work if I place the order through the phone? (I was thinking over doing a phone order so I could split the payment between two credit cards, but if not I can also do it online).

I will certainly be letting you know how it looks when it arrives! Thanks again.

A: You can definitely order by phone. Don’t worry about that at all – but I definitely do appreciate your concern.

I do believe that the TH stone will be completely clean to the naked eye. Those are inclusions you’re seeing, but I just feel that they will be too small and fine to be seen. Keep in mind that this diamond is only 6.4mm in diameter! Even when the image is not under the vitual loupe, it’s still very magnified.

I’m sorry I forgot to address that question in my response!

I look forward to hearing your eye witness report!

A: A few weeks later…..update!

I received the ring a little over a week ago and proposed yesterday…..she loves it! I made sure to pop the question in a location with lots of good, natural light to get the full “wow factor” from the sparkle of the diamond. I am very glad I went with the H&A as it truly is brilliant. She couldn’t stop staring at it on her finger, and we both enjoyed looking through the hearts scope that was included with the ring.

I am attaching a picture of it on her hand. (Not the best quality pic but you get the idea!) Thanks again for your help and insight in making this purchase! It couldn’t have gone any smoother.

Q: Wow. The ring looks great. I’m so happy you two love the ring! May you two be blessed with a long life together filled with health, happiness, and love!

Also, if it’s not too much trouble, do you think you could do me a small favor? I would very much appreciate it if you could leave me a review on ivouch. Here’s a direct link if you have the time:

xxxxxx

Thanks again for this email! I love getting emails like these!

[LINK TO REVIEW ON IVOUCH]

Q&A: Searching for Diamond that “Looks Amazing to the Naked Eye” for $3-3.5K Budget

Q&A

$3000 Budget

$3500 Budget

0.80 ct

0.90 ct

Buying Help

eye-clean

GIA

I Color

Ideal Cut

James Allen

Round Brilliant

SI1 Clarity

SI2 Clarity

Q: Hello – thank you for putting together such a helpful site. I have learned a lot in just about an hour of browsing.

I decided to take you up on your offer of assistance in selecting a diamond. I am budgeting between $3,000 – $3,500 for a round cut diamond. I want something in the neighborhood of .8 – .9 carats that looks amazing to the naked eye. Not having a microscope in the house – I am not too concerned with any well hidden flaws. I won’t select any other characteristics because I have almost no idea what I am talking about other than what I have read on various sites.

Thanks for any suggestions to help me find a great diamond within my budget – or less would be great too.

A: Thanks for writing. Let see what I can come up with!

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1315828.asp – GIA Triple excellent. Eye clean

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1317605.asp

Have a look and let me know what you think!

Q: Thanks Ira – I really appreciate the suggestions.

Just to get a better sense of what we are talking about – I visited a prominent local jeweler this afternoon. There prices were certainly more expensive and when I showed the salesperson the certificate of the first diamond you recommended there was a definite sense that I had committed a very unpleasant act. Do you think there is ever a reason to buy from a brick and mortar store or are they just unable to compete on price for what is essentially the exact same product?

From everything I saw today – your suggestions are right on the mark. I could barely tell the difference in color and clarity ratings and the only obvious difference I could tell were in the size. I am almost certainly going to buy online and hopefully I can get the funds together before your recommendations are already sold.

Thanks again.

A: There still are some specific instances where buying B&M makes sense. Basically, there are certain times when seeing the diamond is an absolute must, and in those circumstances, B&M is a good idea – even though it’ll be more expensive. THis is primarily for the soft-sided fancy shapes which are awfully ugly 90% of the time.

If you buy from JA, then don’t forget to apply the TADJ10 coupon code. It’ll give you 10% off the setting.

Good luck, and please stay in touch and let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear your impressions after you see the stone up close!

Q&A: Best Round Diamond for $2500-$3000 Budget

Q&A

$2500 Budget

$3000 Budget

0.75 carat

0.90 ct

Buying Help

eye-clean

G Color

H Color

Ideal Cut

James Allen

Round Brilliant

SI1 Clarity

VS1 Clarity

Q: Shopping for a diamond is not my idea of fun but a man does what a man has to do… I guess I am looking for a round diamond .75-.90 ct, G-H clarity with no visible inclusions for about $2,500-$3,000 (or slightly more if it is a good deal). Many thanks for your help.

A: For someone who doesn’t enjoy it, you certainly did a great job! Those are three very nice stones. Out of the three, I like this one the best:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1350248.asp

Simply because it’s the cheapest. The three stones would be virtually identical to you if they were in front of you now, so you might as well go with the one that will cost you the least.

Let me know what you think!

Q: I very much appreciate your advice. I went ahead and bought the one you’d suggested. I also used a TADJ10 coupon for the setting.

You are running a great website. Good luck!

All the best

P.S.
