Hi Kyle. Fluorescence on a FLY stone is the kind of thing that can go either way. Sometimes it affects a stone negatively, sometimes it doesn’t. From knowing the people at Leibish, though, I think you can be confident it’ll turn out great. Plus, they’re serious experts when it comes to setting yellow stones, so if you can, you should have them do that for you to bring out the color to the highest possible degree.

Hi Mike and Ira,

I have read some negative things about yellow diamonds that have a blue flour to them. What is your opinion on the below stone?In your experience do fancy yellow diamonds with flour wash out in the sun?

Hi Ira,

Well done on this excellent site, I believe it sets the standard in this area.
I have located a GIA certified .71 Radiant natural fancy vivid yellow, even distribution, SI1 clarity (eye clean), VG polish and symmetry, no fluorescence, 65% table and 66.2% depth for $4750 (exc taxes). How does this sound to you?

Yes, that’s true. That’s not to say it doesn’t matter at all – you still want your diamond to look the size that it is. It’s just less important for fancy color stones.

Hi Ira,

Looking at the ring you recommended for BDulman above, I see the depth is over 70%, which I believe I read on your site is higher than one would like. Does depth matter less for yellow diamonds?
