Following our general diamond clarity review and our discussion of diamond SI1 clarity, we now move on to another very popular clarity grade (especially in the United States), the diamond VS2 clarity grade.  As mentioned in the general clarity review, a VS2 inclusion is easily noticeable under 10x magnification, and is almost always completely clean to the naked eye.  In my Truth about Diamond Clarity article, I feature one such VS2 that, due to its color and placement in the diamond’s table, is eye-visible.  To the left are a few more sample pictures of Diamond VS2 graded inclusions.

As you can see from these sample photos of diamond VS2 clarity, there is a significant range of possible qualities within one VS2 clarity grade.  This is why it is crucial that you always see the diamond before you buy (either in picture or in person).  While it’s true that only a small percentage of VS2s will have an eye-visible diamond VS2 inclusion, why take the chance of being stuck with one by buying blindly?
