Offsize, Ideal, and Beautiful: 1.74 Carat J Color SI2 Clarity Eye-Clean Round Brilliant

1.20+ and 1.70+ have always been considered special, premium sizes in the diamond business.  In the business, they are commonly referred to 5-grainers, and 7-grainers (a “grainer” is 1/4 of a carat).  These sell at a premium at the wholesale level because they’re so much easier to sell at the retail level.  Consider that the jump from a 1 carat diamond to a 1.50 carat diamond (all else being equal), can cost almost double the original 1 carat diamond’s price.  So for those whose budget allows for a 25% or 50% increase, and would like to upgrade the size, but can’t make it all the way to the next rounded size (1.50 ct and 2.00 ct), the 5-grainer and 7-grainer are a great solution.  The price premium on these will usually only be about 40%.

Today’s diamond is a great example of a beautiful 7-grainer.  As with all diamonds I recommend, this diamond is completely clean to the naked eye.
